The Last Ice: Stage 5

by Sep 4, 2024News

Today we have done a record number of kilometres! 38km of sea until we reached Sermidiq and were stopped by the glacial ice. In addition, we had to carry an extra load: one of our bikes broke down, so we had two options: leave the bike in the place where we started today, quite close to the way back, or continue to tow the broken bike and be able to reach the big glacier with the four of us. We have taken the second alternative, and despite our efforts today we will be able to sleep on a cape, right at the entrance to the fjord, and tomorrow we will advance as far as the ice allows us to do so.
The only problem is that we have to be very careful with the icebergs, because if one falls or comes out from under the water causing a small tsunami, if it is already difficult to manoeuvre with just one bike, with the 3 bikes hooked together, and towing the fourth one, it can be dangerous. Finally, we will have to move forward more slowly with oars and raising the propellers of the bikes to be able to cross the ice scattered in the water so that they do not break.
We continue!
